Re: [Film] Bloomington
Pareil!!

Re: [Film] Bloomington
)

Bloomington” is a coming-of-age drama about a former child actress attending college in search of independence and who ends up becoming romantically involved with a female professor. Their relationship thrives until an opportunity to return to acting forces her to make life-altering decisions.
Bloomington Poster JACKIE KIRK, a 22 year-old ex-television child actress arrives in the mid-west all the way from California. She is ready to explore new options and exercise a sense of independence that had thus far been lacking in her life. Her greatest wish is to blend in with her peers which proves to be difficult at times as she fields the endless parade of stares and questions about “Neptune 26,” the popular sci-fi show she was once a part of. Jackie has not been away from her family since the show ended four years prior. Although she is not exactly close to her parents, being alone for the first time is nonetheless an overwhelming experience.
During a psychology department mixer Jackie meets CATHERINE STARK, a mysterious teacher in her early thirties with an infamous “lady-killer” reputation. In spite of warnings she received from other students, Jackie falls for Catherine’s charm and the two outsiders begin an instantly intense relationship.
Through the course of the school year their bond grows stronger and more personal until suddenly Jackie is faced with the chance to audition for a feature film version of her now defunct television show. The prospect of attempting a comeback into the ultra-competitive world of show business is at first daunting to Jackie but after much soul searching she decides to accept the challenge. Armed with renewed self-confidence and a few new insights she picked up courtesy of her psych studies, Jackie decides to give it her all and fight to reclaim her old role.
However, her possible return to the spotlight quickly turns into a life-lesson of its own for both student and teacher. Catherine finds that her illicit behavior, once mostly unnoticed, is now attracting unwanted attention and therefore putting her job security in jeopardy. As for Jackie, she finds that discovering her life’s passion and charting her own course might also mean having to say goodbye to her first true love.

Destined to be a Sapphic classic like Loving Annabelle, a cute former child-star turns college student and embarks on a torrid love affair with a seductive female professor.
It’s the first day of the college semester and a challenging, new direction for adorable, doe-eyed Jackie Kirk (Sarah Stouffer). She is an ex-child-star playing the lead in popular sitcom called “Neptune 26,” but has put all of that behind her now. As the 22-year-old gets acclimated, she meets a foxy, persnickety psychology professor, Catherine Stark (Allison McAtee), who is reminiscent of the classic lesbian vixen on the prowl. She has a notorious reputation as being a “lady killer,” which secretly excites the new kid on campus. But Jackie isn’t innocent either, and when the student and teacher initially hook up sparks fly like it’s the Fourth of July! A lustful and impassioned romance begins, but not without complications and consequences, from Jackie’s overbearing mother and envious classmates. The former actress is asked to re-audition for the role which made her famous, but this causes significant jealously and duress in the couple’s seemingly unbreakable relationship. She is forced to make a decision between launching a comeback or her true love. Both female leads brilliantly play off each other’s strengths, weaknesses and sexual desires which keeps us wanting more. Director Fernada Cardosa offers up an exciting and fresh perspective to the coming-of-age tale while paying homage to cult lesbian classics like the German drama Maedchen in Uniform. Bloomington is certainly not one to miss. -- Kelly Burkhardt
